Children learn valuable lessons when they are allowed to “help.” Most of the time, to do something yourself is easier and quicker, but your children will not learn how if you do not encourage them to be helpers. For example, if you want your children to set the table for dinner, show them how, and then, in time, expect them to do it without your assistance. If you want your child to learn to cook, start early by allowing them to do little things, such as stir the eggs as you get ready to scramble them.
