I have heard this saying all my life: You will never move forward–If you continue to look back. There is so much truth to this statement. As children of God, we all have a Promised Land awaiting our entrance. A place we are called to serve not only Jesus but those whom He entrusts to our path. A place where God longs to bless His children. However, Satan’s mission is to cause us to retreat from God’s plan in order to reap destruction in our lives. The enemy works overtime in tempting us to “long for Egypt,” especially when the going gets tough.
Then all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. 2 All the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, “Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why is the Lord bringing us into this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?” 4 So they said to one another, “Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt.” (Numbers 14:1-4)
As you follow Jesus, remember this truth. You will never (fully) move forward with Him–if you are constantly looking back.
As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.” 58 And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 59 And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.” 60 But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.” 61 Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.” 62 But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:57-62)
What is holding your attention currently?
God has a bright future ahead for all of us. Don’t miss what He is wanting to do in your future by continuing to look back to your past. Onward to your Promise Land!
